Lama
Village of Balagne
An authentic, atypical and magnificent commune, Lama has been chosen to represent Corsica in the famous TV show "Le Village préféré des Français" 2018.
A well-deserved reward for this exceptional place, with its rich history, which is one of the most visited places on the Isle of Beauty...
The story
The discovery a few years ago of a large deposit of menhirs between Lama and Urtaca attests to a human presence on the site... as far back as prehistoric times! Signs of human habitation were reinforced in the Middle Ages (notably at the fall of the Roman Empire) when, to face the numerous barbarian invasions that followed one another in Corsica, the people placed themselves under the protection of a local lord. It wasn't until the 17th century that the village prospered... and even became one of the richest in Corsica, thanks to the production of excellent olive oil.
The village
With its rare beauty, Lama harmoniously combines its medieval past with its Renaissance boom. The heart of the village is made up of pretty little houses, set against each other, and beautiful cobbled streets. A change of scenery on the outskirts, with the imposing and luxurious Tuscan-influenced villas built by the powerful olive growers of the time. If you're not already won over by so much character, just admire the exceptional view over the Ostriconi valley... A breathtaking panorama! In short, Lama is the place to be in Balagne!
