Costa
Village of Balagne
The smallest commune in the Balagne region, nestled between Ville-di-Paraso and Occhiatana, Costa is built into the mountainside... but at the same time is only ten kilometers from the sea! An exceptional geographical location that makes this place quite simply unique...
The history
A little thumb of the Balagne region (both in terms of surface area and population), Costa played a key role in the Middle Ages as part of the piève de Tuani. The people's court of the time was located on its territory (it's still possible to visit the site), proof of the commune's importance.
Later, like many villages in northern Corsica, Costa came under the regency of the Marquises of Massa and then the Lords of Malaspina (a large residence built by the latter and located next to the town hall still stands), before finally becoming part of France.
The village
Authentic. That's the first word that springs to mind when visiting the commune.
With its ancient houses clustered around the church and its narrow cobbled streets (where you can't drive), Costa has a real charm all of its own!
Just ask the hikers who flock to this timeless place every year...
