Pietralba
Village of Balagne
Located at the eastern end of the Balagne region, on the edge of Corsica's magnificent Regional Nature Park, Pietralba is a village steeped in history.
In fact, it wasn't always called Pietralba...
The history
For centuries, the territory of Pietralba (inhabited since prehistoric times) was made up of the charming villages of Teto and Pedano.
These two villages played a key role in the Corsican revolt against Genoa in the 18th century. The area was a strategically important point, linking Balagne to the interior of the island.
With the end of the conflict, it was decided to merge (and thus unify) Teto and Pedano. Thus, in 1760, Pietralba was born.
The village
For a very long time, Pietralba was renowned for the quality of its cereals (mainly wheat and barley), but also... for its pistols (the famous "Petralbincas" made in the village forges)!
Today, sheep and cattle farming (as well as local commerce) are the mainstay of the village's wealth.
Not to mention its many religious buildings, of rare beauty...
