Pioggiola
Village of Balagne
Pioggiola is a charming little mountain village (average altitude 1000 m) in the Giussani region, in the south-east of the Balagne region.
Its tranquility and pure air attract many visitors every year...
The history
The discovery of Stone Age arrowheads in the Battaglia Pass (near Pioggiola) dates the origins of the village back to prehistoric times.
In the Middle Ages, the territory was owned by the famous marquises of Massa and then San Colombano di Caccia. In the 14th century, the marquises waged a bloody war, ruining the area...
Fortunately, the village was rebuilt and enjoyed a golden period thanks to the exploitation of wood from its forests.
The village
Composed of several hamlets (Forcili, Calchisalti and Tombalacce), Pioggiola is surrounded by two beautiful forests, one of which is home to a formidable theatrical tool (A Stazzona or La Forge).
Fans of the arts and the performing arts flock here... as do hikers and paragliders, seduced by the beauty of the surroundings.
The village, built on a balcony, is dominated by old houses. These characterful dwellings give the village a priceless cachet...
