Santa Reparata di Balagna
Village of Balagne
With its exceptional panoramic views of the Giunsani, Cap Corse, the Agriates desert and Île-Rousse, Santa-Reparata-di-Balagna is one of the most beautiful communes in the Balagne region. A place where life is good...
The history
Santa-Reparata's origins date back to antiquity. In all likelihood, it was called Agilla and was dependent on the powerful Tyre.
The Middle Ages, with the construction of numerous religious buildings (still present today), played an essential role in the commune's rich history. As early as 830, Pope Saint Pascal I personally commissioned the construction of the church of Santa-Reparata (in homage to the Christian martyr of the same name). Other monuments followed in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries (the Brotherhood of St. Anthony, San Bernadinu chapel, San Roccu church, Annunziata chapel...), adding a priceless cachet.
Since 1954, Santa-Reparata-di-Balagna has been part of the canton of Île-Rousse (along with Pigna and Sant'Antonino ).
The village
Nestled between Mont Sant'Angelo and the hill of Santa Suzanna, Santa-Reparata is made up of several hamlets (Poggio, Alzia, San Berdardinu, Palmento, Occiglioni and Palazzi).
Each has its own wonders, religious monuments and breathtaking views.
Santa-Reparata-di-Balagna is also a land of wine and olive oil.
